Annual Report

September 2022 - August 2023

This annual report highlights Any Baby Can’s impact and key accomplishments towards our vision.

Our Collective Responsibility

Families have a lot of hope, and we hold that hope with them. We see families every day that show us how much kids can overcome and thrive, when they’re in an environment that fosters their growth. That motivates our team throughout the year!

Last year was marked by our collective efforts to explore new opportunities, embrace partnerships, and innovate in our approaches. We improved efficiencies, expanded our presence, and tackled systemic issues facing families in Central Texas.

As advocates of child development and family health, it is our collective responsibility to stabilize families, empower parents, and provide them with opportunities to succeed. Let's see what we can accomplish together!

IMPACT IN THE COMMUNITY

Parenting is a collective, social responsibility. There is a role and a need for society to actively support parents and their children. At Any Baby Can, we work directly with parents, but also with partner organizations, supporters and community stakeholders to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and families in Central Texas.

Thought Leadership Blog Banner (1)

There’s no question that parenting affects the development and life-long success of children. However, parents are not solely responsible for their child’s health and development.

Many elements influence a person’s ability to parent and, in turn, influence the health and success of a child. Learn about our role in supporting parents and what your role is, too.

Opportunities and Challenges

Texas ranks 45th out of 50 states in overall child well-being. 57% of children ages 3 and 4 are not in preschool, 26% have parents who lack secure employment, and 20% of children live in poverty.
(Annie E. Casey, 2022 Kids Count Data Book)

Total number of referrals increased by 6% compared to previous year.

Any Baby Can received 5,098 referrals from doctors, schools and other partners for new clients (6% more than last year). There is a constant and important need for the services provided to the community.

However, service delivery has been flat due to stagnant funding.

As we’ve experienced gaps in funding for several programs, many areas have not been able to serve the growing number of prospective clients.

Despite funding challenges, we provided nearly 1,000 more visits than the previous year.

Improvements in programs allowed us to see clients more consistently and, in some cases, more frequently. For example, since returning to in-person parenting classes, parents are attending more classes and more parents are completing the course. Another example is in our counseling program where we’re seeing higher-need individuals who attend more sessions.

Our programs primarily serve families with young children.

In the United States, 1 in 6 children aged 2–8 years (17.4%) had a diagnosed mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder (CDC Mental Health Data).

In Texas, 85.5% of the 65,584 children eligible for Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) services had developmental delays--this is an increase of 9% over 2021 (HHS ECI Data Reports).

Almost half of our clients experience poverty.

Texas leads the nation in the number of children living in concentrated poverty. Overall, 20% of kids in Texas live below the poverty level. Generational inequity and systemic racism continue to result in racial disparities for children and their families. In Texas, children who are Black, Hispanic, or identify with two or more races are more than three times more likely to experience poverty (Annie E. Casey Foundation, 2022 Kids Count Data Center). As early as 18 months, low-income children begin to fall behind in vocabulary development and other skills critical for school success (Campaign for Grade-Level Reading).
