Any Baby Can Family Participates in Season for Caring

Ashley and Georges Jerome have been a part of the Any Baby Can family for 11 years! When Ashley was pregnant with her first child, she joined Nurse-Family Partnership for guidance on becoming a first-time mom. Now they are a family of nine navigating healthcare and school systems. Their three youngest children have autism spectrum disorder, and the oldest three have unique learning disabilities.

Ashley had a baby in February this year and stays at home full-time to care for her children, including receiving services from our Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) program for two kids.

Tragedy struck in 2022, as their then-youngest daughter—who was also receiving ECI services—passed away in their home from acute pneumonia. The family never got to grieve this loss as three hours after her death, Child Protective Services (CPS) came to their door. Standard procedure requires an investigation with CPS after a child passes at the home, but a few months later, the agency removed all the children from the home. After months of legal battles, the judge returned the children to the Jeromes, and he also informed the family that the children should not have been removed from the home.

"When CPS removed my children, it really impacted my family. My children were removed from their safe spaces and suffered great trauma. Each child has unique mental health needs and continues to fight to return to normalcy. Our family is desperate to grieve the loss of our beloved daughter and sister. The last year has been spent fighting to unite and rebuild our family dynamic. I am so grateful we are all under the same roof again. Hopefully, we can begin to grieve,” shares Ashley.

Building Support Around Family

Ashley and Georges go above and beyond to advocate for their children. Both mom and dad are registered nurses and use their knowledge and experience to ensure their kids get the support they need to succeed. They have been wonderful partners through our work together.

Any Baby Can has been able to support the Jeromes in a variety of ways as they navigate the medical and school systems, receive pediatric therapies, and improve their parenting skills to strengthen the relationships with their kids. We have also been able to provide basic needs support including diapers, formula, emergency rental assistance and more.

"Any Baby Can has been a big lifesaver during my difficult time. Any Baby Can has helped my kids out a lot with much needed therapies and support though out the years," says Ashley.

But the family’s needs are extensive. The family struggles with their current living situation and is currently trying to find a safer and more accessible place to live. They could also benefit from support accessing medical supplies their children require, as well as sensory tools, furniture and more.

And what the Jerome’s need most is time to grieve, heal, and be together as a family.
