The COVID-19 pandemic hit Austin just two weeks before our annual Benefit Concert fundraiser. Priorities quickly shifted to ensuring families continued to receive services and support while prioritizing the well-being of our staff, clients and supporters. With the cancellation of our concert, we began checking in on our sponsors.
Despite the uncertain and stressful time, their responses provided profound encouragement. Our supporters asked about our families, our staff, and our work. They were as concerned as we were, and open to the flexibility that this new landscape would require.
These partners, choosing to stand by our mission and client families, committed their sponsorships. Their tremendous generosity made it possible for our staff to quickly and creatively pivot, to date conducting over 6,000 virtual visits and classes, serving nearly 2,000 families since mid-March!
In addition, several sponsors, like Endeavor Real Estate Group and AQUILA Commercial, sent volunteer teams to prepare and distribute meals to hundreds of our client families! Jay Lamy, Principal at AQUILA, who is a long-time supporter, board member, concert sponsor and corporate partner, enthusiastically captures the passion of AQUILA’s commitment to our families and this community.

Many of the families we serve experience challenging medical needs. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas has collaborated with Any Baby Can for more than 20 years, most recently becoming a Mission Partner, the highest level of corporate partnership, significantly supporting our work with unrestricted funding. Sandy Martinez Nava, Sr. Supervisor of Community Outreach, has been a true ambassador for our families.

As a Community Advisory Board member, I have been able to share more of the great work Any Baby Can offers to others, and have more pride in being part of a company that has become a Mission Partner. A community that comes together during difficult times comes out stronger. This year our event theme was celebrating clients’ “I Can!” spirit. Our amazing sponsors have proven that together “We Can!”
