Regents School Adapts Volunteers' Service Trips
Throughout the pandemic, Any Baby Can has adapted services to telemedicine and other remote operations in order to safely continue to offer services to families in need. Similarly, our partner organizations, volunteers and groups have had to adapt. Regents School of Austin adapted their annual service project to uphold their commitment to serving the community even through difficult times, and involve students in the spirit of service.
Rather than canceling their annual service projects and trips, the school decided to adapt and refocus. This year, the service opportunity consisted of three, socially distanced days where students volunteered from home, on campus and throughout Austin. Figuring out how to organize 170 kids across three days was no easy feat. But it was definitely worthwhile! The students contributed a total of 4,200 service hours across the city, including 450 service hours with Any Baby can. Some of their projects included preparing and delivering meals to sixty families, hosting a soccer camp, painting houses for individuals recently released from prison, and cementing fence posts for an equine therapy center.
“To me, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a student come home exhausted from a valuable day’s worth of work... It’s so good for them, it’s good physically and spiritually,” says Liz Benigno, Head of School of Rhetoric at Regents School of Austin.
Students also helped us celebrate families at our Nurse-Family Partnership graduation by creating mason jar succulents, puzzles and decorations. At the end of the service week, a group of Regents students joined us at the drive-thru graduation to create a cheer line. Another group of students created project kits for our upcoming One Stellar Night fundraising event. They did an awesome job, and we are so grateful for their hard work for our client families!
“Any Baby Can is the perfect example of an organization that matches the heart behind our service,” says Mrs. Benigno.
Any Baby Can offers a variety of meaningful volunteer opportunities throughout the year for individuals, groups and employees. As of April 2021, we’re offering various remote volunteer activities and are planning some in-person opportunities soon. We’re always willing to find a project that resonates with your interests and passions! Find ways to get involved and volunteer your time to bring hope, strength and stability to thousands of families in our community.
“Any Baby Can has been an incredible partner. Enthusiastic, responsive, easy to work with... They wanted to make it work and were proactive in finding a way to make it happen during a weird year,” says Mrs. Benigno.
