Meet Senator Watson

First elected to the Texas Senate in 2006, Kirk Watson represents Senate District 14, which now covers most of Travis County and all of Bastrop County.

Kirk has approached the Texas Legislature with many of the same goals and strategies he pursued throughout his career in public service – building new coalitions, working with all sides, and preparing for Texas’ future.

He served as chairman of the Texas Senate Democratic Caucus beginning in 2011 and continued in that position through the 2015 legislative session.

After five legislative sessions, Kirk has been widely recognized for his idealism as well as his effectiveness. Texas Monthly magazine recognized him as one of Texas’ 10 Best Legislators in 2009. It also named him Legislative Rookie of the Year in 2007 and gave him an Honorable Mention in its coverage of best legislators in 2011 and 2013.

Kirk’s top legislative priority has been working to ensure that Texas offers as much opportunity to our children as it did to Kirk. This includes great public schools and ready access to healthcare.

Meet Mark Hawkins

Mark Hawkins practices as a trial lawyer in the areas of commercial litigation, real estate litigation, and all aspects of construction law. Mark is listed in the The Best Lawyers in America® published by Woodward/White, Inc. (2012 – present) for his work in the areas of Commercial Litigation and Real Estate Law. Mark has also been selected to the Texas Super Lawyers® published by Thompson Reuters (2016) in Business Litigation. Mark is also a certified mediator and a member of the Association of Attorney Mediators.

Mark became involved with Any Baby Can in 2017 when he offered his legal expertise to assist a family in need. When the De La Paz family was nominated by Any Baby Can for the Austin American-Statesman’s Season for Caring campaign, one of their wishes was to establish ownership of their home.

Mark volunteered more than $10,000 of his time and resources to the De La Paz family, ultimately proving that they were the legal owners of their home. His volunteerism speaks perfectly to the mission of Any Baby Can, as his donation stabilized the family’s environment, allowing their children to grow up healthy and happy. This opened the door for renovations that made the home accessible for two wheelchair-bound children.

Volunteers like Mark Hawkins, who give fully and without expectations, truly exemplify the spirit of Any Baby Can.

Thank you to our award winners, and all the nominees, for your generosity and support.
